In late 2002, the idea to create the Sallows Military Museum was born using military artifacts originally housed in the Knight Museum. The Sallows Military Allies and Foundation was formed January 2003 by individuals who envisioned a place to honor the many brave men and women from Box Butte County who served their country in the military.
The building was originally the bath house for the Alliance Swimming Pool in the 1930’s and at one time housed the Parks Department. The Sallows Military Museum opened its doors May 1, 2004. As you enter the museum, you may notice a lingering smell of smoke. On May 7, 2005, the Alliance Fire Department was called to the museum at 5:16 a.m. An approximate $250,000 in damage was done by the fire and is still considered an “open arson” case.
Displays range from the Indian Wars, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korean Conflict, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq War and the Alliance Army Air Base.
